Hello Lutherans and Latte(rs). VBS just wrapped up at Como Park, but there are still many churches starting it up this week, next week, and all summer. Unfortunately, one popular VBS curriculum has been getting a lot of negative spotlight. VBS, and the Church as a whole, need to be held to high standards, and the actions of one company or church can cause quick and harsh criticism. What responsibility do we have towards this? Let's discuss together, tomorrow morning 9 AM at the Underground. https://www.scarymommy.com/popular-summer-bible-school-program-filled-with-blatant-racism/?utm_source=FB
Wednesday June 11 7:00pm Learn more about sponsoring refugee and immigrant families with Martha Yapp of Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota. We'll meet in the chapel. See you there!
Join us at Lutherans and Lattes Tuesday June 11 at 9:00 a.m. Should the priesthood be abolished? What about pastors? Do we need them? What should they do? What should the laity do? Come on, bring a friend. It'll be fun. https://www.npr.org/2019/05/19/724851338/former-catholic-priest-calls-to-abolish-the-priesthood
Thanks so much to the Turkish American Society of Minnesota for holding an Iftar meal at Como Park Lutheran Church and sharing with us!
What happens to religion when we find aliens? It is an intriguing question, and with Vacation Bible School's theme next week on To Mars and Beyond, it is at the front of my mind! Take a look at this article (curtesy of our Office Manager!), and join us for Lutherans and Lattes, Tuesday 9 AM at the Underground. https://onezero.medium.com/what-happens-to-religion-when-we-find-extraterrestrial-life-742146170c27
As we near the end of the Easter Season, themes of resurrection and afterlife come to mind - and apparently they're all over television too. This interview article looks at why our current pop-culture is so obsessed with the afterlife. What DOES happen to us after we die? Have our thoughts on this changed over time? Let us discuss together, Tuesday June 4, 8 PM @ Stout's Pup. Bring a friend to Theology on Tap, and see you soon! https://www.thecut.com/2019/02/why-is-tv-so-obsessed-with-the-afterlife-right-now.html
There will be NO Lutherans and Lattes tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day! (hope it stops raining) See you next week.
What can we learn about discipleship from super heroes? Or perhaps fruits of the Spirit? Come join us together for Lutherans and Lattes, tomorrow morning 9 AM at The Underground Music Cafe. Bring a friend, see you there. https://www.livinglutheran.org/2019/05/the-gifts-of-discipleship-in-avengers-endgame/

Hello Lutherans and & Lattes. Today starts the Holy month of Ramadan for our Muslim sisters and brothers around the world. What exactly is Ramadan, and why do Muslims fast? As we prepare to share an Iftar meal with our Muslim neighbors later this month on May 31, let us gather together and discuss the importance of this practice, and how we can be observant and aware throughout this month. Meet us tomorrow 9 AM at the Underground Music Cafe. http://time.com/5583680/ramadan-2019-guide-date-greeting/
These days there is a lot of talk about what is "right" and what is "wrong". This coming Tuesday May 7th, our Theology on Tap group will meet at 8:00 PM at Stout's Pub (Larpenteur and Snelling) to simply discuss "What is Ramadan"? This beginner's guide is a good place to start - although it's from a different year, so the dates are off. This year, Ramadan begins around May 5. As with any CPLC Theology on Tap discussion, we do not meet to convince, judge, sway or argue - but rather to inform and discuss. All are welcome to respectfully bring their opinions to the table. https://www.timeoutdubai.com/ramadan/features/52992-a-beginners-guide-to-ramadan
Lutherans and Lattes, Tomorrow is a special occasion: instead of an article, we will be welcoming our new Intern Pastor, Jua Her! Same time and place, The Underground Music Cafe at 9 AM - come say hello!
